About SICEA Project
ANCE-Togo is acting as the Regional West Africa Hub for the Transparency International (TI)’s “Stopping Impunity for Corruption through Enhanced Accountability (SICEA)“ Project.
The SICEA Project is a Transparency International’s 11-coutry programme implemented in four regions of the African continent (Central, East, Southern, and West Africa). The Regional West Africa Hub is coordinated by ANCE-TOGO. This Regional Project Hub includes National Chapters in Ghana (Transparency International Ghana), Liberia (Center for Transparency and Accountability (CENTAL), Sierra Leone (Transparency International Sierra Leone (TI-SL) and Togo (ANCE Togo).
It will also involve several other TI chapters in West Africa on capacity building on how to use legal accountability mechanisms and the evidentiary standards required.
The project enables civil society organizations in sub-Saharan Africa to engage in relevant legal accountability mechanisms and strengthen advocacy efforts to drive anti-corruption reforms more effectively.
Project goal
To build communities of practice in West Africa that promote anti-corruption reforms and leverage existing accountability mechanisms to reduce impunity for high-level corruption.
Project objective
(1) CSOs in Africa more effectively document corruption and engage with relevant independent accountability mechanisms to deter corruption and reduce impunity for corrupt actors and (2) CSO collaboration and capacity strengthened to more effectively promote evidence-based advocacy to advance anti-corruption reforms in West Africa.
Key activities
The key activities of the SICEA Project in West Africa are aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and access to information across the region. Through research, advocacy, capacity building, and regional collaboration, the project supports civil society engagement and promotes anti-corruption and governance reforms. These activities include:
Collecting and compiling corruption cases prosecuted in the sub region
Documenting the implementation status of regional and international anti-corruption instruments with regards to access to information in West Africa
Producing policy briefing and communication materials calling on access to information and anti-corruption reform in West Africa
Hosting or participating in advocacy training to CSOs in selected African countries
Hosting and organizing advocacy events as part of existing regional and international governance and/or anti-corruption fora
